We encourage you to utilize the online recommendation system in order to expedite the processing of your application.

It is to your advantage to apply as early as possible to give yourself the longest available time to prepare both academically and professionally. Typically, you will receive a decision within four to six weeks after the application deadline if your application was properly completed.

If you are concerned about your quantitative readiness for the next class, you should not apply in the final deadline round, since the late deadline may not allow for adequate quantitative assessment and preparation.

The admissions office encourages every applicant to establish an accessible e-mail account before submitting an application, as e-mail is the most efficient way for the admissions office to communicate quickly with applicants. Please include your e-mail address in the space provided on the application.

In order to help make your application to The Duke MBA as convenient as possible, the following might be helpful to know:

Fuqua admits applicants with a range of GMAT scores. There is no minimum requirement. However, if you feel that you have not scored your personal best, or that the results are not representative of your ability, you may re-take the exam. However, the test must be taken before you submit your application.

The GMAT is important in the evaluation process, but it is not the only indicator of achievement. Other important aspects of the application that are assessed by the admissions committee include a candidate’s academic performance, work experience, recommendations, and essays.

Essays are an opportunity to share your perspective directly with the admissions committee. The goal of our essays is to gain a greater understanding of why you want to pursue an MBA and what you will bring to Duke, in addition to the experiences you have had that shape your unique perspective.

We do not require or favor a particular undergraduate major. Students come from a wide range of academic backgrounds.

We require a minimum of five years post-undergraduate work experience. You should use the application to articulate the value of the experience as it relates to contributing to the learning environment at The Fuqua School of Business and how the experience has helped you develop leadership and teamwork skills, as well as maturity, on professional and personal levels.

A non-refundable $200 application fee must be paid by credit card (VISA or MasterCard). The fee is paid when you submit the application online to the office of admissions.

Each applicant is expected to submit a completed application package to the executive MBA office of admissions. The admissions committee will only review complete application packages, which must include the following items:

  1. Completed and submitted online application.
  2. Non-refundable application fee.
  3. Current resume/CV.
  4. Two letters of recommendation.
  5. Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate coursework (in English). (LINK Transcript Request Form)
  6. Official scores of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Contact www.gmat.org or 1-800- GMAT NOW. The applicant should schedule a test date at least three weeks in advance of application submission. GMAT scores less than 5 years old are acceptable.
  7. Official results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam for applicants whose native language is not English. We also accept the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) and TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication).
